It has been raining so much here it seems as if I'm living in a tropical rain forest. The rain can have all kinds of effects on us and our earth. For example, here all the grass is growing like mad and the trees and plants are all green and downright luscious in appearance. Can trees be luscious?
Anyway, the same rain has been flooding streets, damaging crops, messing up the fishing and causing all kinds of havoc! The other day, during a short break in the onslaught of rain and being driven by a desire to get out on the water, we squeezed in about a half-day of fishing. The water in the bay looked like dark beer and the fishing was lousy; the usual affect of a lot of rain in the bay.
The point being that the same rain that can help beautiful plants and good food to grow can also have damaging effects on other things. Thinking about that statement in a spiritual sense; we are to be His witnesses in all we say and do, we are the "rain" in all the lives we come into contact with around us. Yet just like the natural rain from the clouds, we can have a good affect in helping others grow or we can have a negative affect in their lives. We choose what kind of rain we want to be to others we are around daily.
Frankly, I'm not doing nearly as well as I would like to in this area. I spend way to much time clouding up and raining on other people, verbal jousting with their emotions and self image, never giving a thought to how they are feeling or what they may be going through. That's selfish rain, a destructive storm, a hurricane hitting their emotional and personal trees that may pull their roots right out of the ground. It could be a storm from hell for them.
What I want to be is a gentle encouraging rain, steady Heavenly rain, at the right times, that may in some way draw them into the Son light where things become safe, clear and the trials we go through in life are manageable with His help and guidance.
What kind of rain are you?
I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. (Ezekiel 36: 25-27)
