Stick To The Plan

Yesterday I had a ton of mail to case (put in route order) before leaving the office for the days deliveries. So much so that I required assistance to deliver it all by the prescribed return time (to finish on time).

The boss said to give my helper how ever much mail I needed to give Him for me to able to return to the office on time. When the help arrived I gave him less than I should have because I knew he had to go help someone else too. If I gave him more it would have made him and the other person he was going to help both later.

Upon returning to the office, my boss was less than pleased. None of us had made it back by the requested time. I pleaded my case. The other two carriers would have been later. Nevertheless, had I given my helper a little more mail (which is what he had directed me to do), at least I would have been back on time. Apparently this would have been a better result according to the boss's plan.

Ephesians 6:5-6:8: 5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. 6 Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. 7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, 8 because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free.

I know most everyone reading this is probably not a slave, but this passage does give us encouragement to be responsible and have integrity on the job. Yesterday, even though I was trying to be helpful to the other two carriers, I did not follow the boss's plan. He is the one with the overall picture of what he is trying to accomplish. It is not my job to change his plan.

What happens if we as believers decide we are not going to follow God's plan at this point or that point? What happens if we go around screwing up His "big picture" because we don't like the plan or don't know plan, or worse think we have a better plan? God knows the big picture. Stick to His plan!

Drop me a line,

Greg
