Just Asking

Years ago we would see it on T-Shirts, wrist bands, and coffee mugs. WWJD, what would Jesus do? I understand the good intentions of the question, but was there more money made on that question than action taken because of it? Just asking. What I'm asking is, do we spend more time "looking and acting" like the worlds perception of a "religious person", rather than "being" a follower of Christ?

I confess I've fallen into the religious hole all too often. I can look the part with the best of them, but my stomach truly turns at the thought of it these days. I used to buy the coolest Christian "tees" I could find, and then wear them to church or some youth event, otherwise they didn't come out of the closet. I would wear a suit and tie to church and look like the worlds idea of the clean, well to do preacher man. Pure phoniness! I even gave money to ministries with no intention of doing any of the "service" for others myself.

When Jesus walked this earth He wreaked havoc on the "religious leaders". He cleared the temple of the moneychangers. He told the "religious leaders" they taught one thing and lived another way. There is something terribly wrong with just "looking and acting" like a follower of Jesus.

What would Jesus do if He were walking the earth today? I don't think He would enjoy sitting through a "dot the i's and cross the t's" church exercise. I think you might find Him hanging out at a homeless shelter or a nursing home. I don't think He would routinely race for the "all you can eat buffet restaurant" on Sunday at 12 noon sharp. I imagine He might grab a bite to eat at the local soup kitchen.

We are going to "be" something. Are we going to be "religious" people or are we going be "His followers"? Just asking. Oh, by the way, people can tell the difference from a mile away.

Drop me a line,

Greg
